Truphone  /

An outstanding international mobile experience

Truphone was the first company to bring internet telephony (VoIP) to the mass mobile phone market, enabling users to make free and low-cost calls via Wi-Fi and the internet.

The company now focuses on providing an outstanding mobile telephone experience for its corporate clients worldwide, such as Caterham F1 Team, Airinmar and NATS. Users of the Truphone service can make free calls to other VoIP users from their existing mobile phones, and make international calls at local rates. The company has users in over 200 countries.

Founded in 2005 by current CTO James Tagg, Truphone is based in London and employs over 600 people across four continents. Steve Robinson (Openreach) is CEO.

Eden led Truphone’s seed round in 2006 and continued to support the company in future rounds. The company has since raised finance from investors such as Wellington Partners, Independent News & Media, Burda Digital, Sloan Robinson Private Equity and, most recently, Roman Abramovich who led a £75 million round in early 2013.
